I was just about to go to bed when I heard Quillson in his hedgie bag next to me making a lot of licking sounds. At first I thought he was just playing with himself (dirty little boys! :)), but it kept going on for a long time. I finally took him out of his baggie and when I saw him I was in immediate hysterics. His entire left side of his body was COVERED IN BLOOD! He had been licking himself clean trying to cleanse his wound.
I started screaming for my boyfriend Frankie (I'm at his place afterall) and crying uncontrollably. He grabs Quillson and we take him into the bathroom where I fill the sink up with lukewarm water to clean Quillson off so we can see where the blood is coming from. There was so much of it!
Quillson wasn't making any noises, and he was acting like his normal self, but obviously something was terribly wrong.
We managed to clean off most of the blood, except for a patch of it on his forehead quills that's still there. I was freaking out even more because at that point it looked like he was bleeding from the inside of his ear which essentially meant he was bleeding from his HEAD, and that can't be good.
I was so hysterical and crying. I kept saying, "You can't die on me! You can't die! I'll die if you die on me like this!" He is my joy. The only thing in my life right now that makes me truly happy with absolutely NO negativities. I was so scared.
After we got him dried off and we started really inspecting him we discovered that the wound is actually on his neck below and behind his ear, not the ear itself. That was a big relief!
I held Quillson down while Frankie cleaned him with peroxide which he did NOT like too much. By this time I was at least able to see because I wasn't crying so hard.
Now here's for the kicker... This just goes to show that Quillson is a typical little man... When we get carrying him back to the living room in his towel he decided to take a monster sized poop! Frankie was like, "See Rox, that's a healthy little man there!"
Then, not even 30 seconds later, I'm looking at Quillson and his little "manly part" is completely out!! Can you believe that one?! I couldn't help but laugh. I suppose he hadn't lost too much blood! :)
And finally, in one last effort to prove how much of a macho man my Quillson is, he's on the floor next to me as I'm preparing a safe place for him to sleep and where I can watch him all night when he runs full speed over to his food storage container (not even his food bowl, he had to go for the big boys!) and tumps it over, climbs inside and starts eating! The boy was just bleeding to death! Typical man wouldn't you say?!
Anyway, so far he seems okay. He's sleeping all warm and cozy in my pillow right now. We still don't know what injured him because he was in a hedgie bag with nothing else. We think he either poked himself with one of his own quills or scratched himself too hard.
So far he seems okay, I am not too worried. He's been playing like normal, eating, drinking, pooping everything. It just scared me a lot last night. I'm keeping a really close eye on him to see if he starts acting like he's feeling bad and keeping the wound clean.
Everyone, please send your love and good thoughts to my little one. He went through a lot last night and I love him so much and need him to be with me for a **** of a long time.
