In fact, they are almost blind when there is light (they see a bit better in the dark). And the light is important for the perception of colors.
I also think that they are colorblind. So colors doesn't have much importance for them...
For the aromatherapy thing, I don't know if this is good for hedgehogs. Their sense of smell is highly developped and strong odors cannot be good for them...

That is a little unusual, I wonder if there is research done or if there is actual fact behind it? Its probably more likely that its completely false but who knows? I wont be trying any of those things on my boys, I will leave the experimenting up to others.

I find the site interesting...I know that the Hedgehog Welfare Society talked about the use of crytals and healing for hedgehogs in their third issue (September 2002), I found the article particulary interesting. I also have a book The Natural Hedgehog by Lenni Skyes that has a section on Color Therapy and actually states that "hedgehogs are not colour blind as was once supposed, and are likely to distinguish between certain colours." It goes on to explain which colors are good for whatever type of ailment the hedgehog may be going though (much like the list on the website). I have an open mind and believe that these type of therapies work. I mean what do you have to lose, if all you want to do is help your hedgie get better. I am sure the info in the book was acquired through Lenni Skyes own experience, but I am not sure if research was done "scientifically".
Well to make a long story short, I think that color therapy, crystal therapy, aroma therapy, and other non-convential methods of therapy could only help to relieve an ailing hedgehog.

I agree with that. I am not sure if it is true or not, or if it would work or not. I am not a scientist and I am no doctor, but I think that they couldn't do any harm to try. The only thing I probably would never try would be the aroma therapy, because of their highly sensitive sense of smell. If I was to try that I would place them in an area where they could far enough away from the smell if it was harmful or they didn't like it.
Now the color and crystal therapy sounds good to me, since it wouldn't hurt their sensitive hearing or smell.
Like I said, I am no doctor.

I personally don't really believe in the majority of those things, but when my Q-Bert got sick I was willing to try homeopathic remedies. I was desperate and willing to try just about anything different. I had ordered some from a vet in CO, but unfortunately they didn't come until the day he died. So I have no idea if they would have worked or not. I figure it can't hurt them (except maybe aromatherapy). So why not try it if you're out of other options?

i dont believe that hedgehogs are color blind, here is why:
i used to use shreded paper in the bottom of my hedgehog cages, then i switched to using it just in their litter boxes. i would always use plain white paper, until one day i had run out without realizing, so i had to use colored paper. i chose the brightest ones; red, yellow, orange. i shredded it and put it in the litter box, normally (with the white paper) hedgewood would use the litter box and that was that, however upon use of the colored paper, hedgewood did not use the litter box. instead she would carry pieces of the shredded paper from her litter box, accross her cage into her igloo to make a little nest for herself. she did this every time i used the colored paper, any color, but not with the white.
it was the cutest thing, to think that she was busy during the night carrying her little pieces of paper back to her igloo to make a little nest.....i love her so much :)
hm. well, when you reduce the colors to graytone, red is in the middle grays while yellow and orange are lighter. so we can conclude definitely that she recognised that it was a different tone, but not necessarily a different color, than the white paper. it would be interesting to experiment, though.
