I have 2 chins and I just started thinking about getting a hedgehog. Do they require a lot of maintance? I adore my chins, should I think of another animal to join our happy home?

IMO, hedgehogs can make wonderful pets. :) One of the main differences that you need to be aware of before adding a hedgehog to your chin home is temperature differences. Hedgehogs need to be in the 72-75 degree range, which is too warm for chinchillas, from my understanding. Hedgehog maintenance isn't any higher than any small animal, you have to feed them, water them, clean their cages regularly, and spend time with them daily.

I was just going to mention that, but Sarah beat me to it. I would definitely look into the legality of whatever animal you might add to your family. CA is a stickler about a lot of species that they do not allow!

I feel sorry for California residents:( They don't get to keep any of the cool animals :( Hopefully you'll find something that is legal in your state that is almost as wonderful as a hedgie! :)
