Ok so my 6 mo old male chin who I've had for maybe a little over a month is turning out to be, what I assume to be very sweet?? (besides a humping machine)!!!! When he's awake and I'm in my room he constantly sits by the door looking at me, biting the bars, etc. Anytime I open the cage door, he flies out onto my chest or shoulder, but especially likes to just sit on my chest (it's fairly large so a good perch lol). I rest an arm underneath and a hand above him, and he seems content like that for a little bit, then wriggles and jumps back into his cage. Would you consider this as his enjoying being held? He also seems to like it when I pet him, though i've read most chins don't. The only thing that doesn't fit is he does not let me pick him up, I can only hold him if HE jumps onto me lol. What do you guys think? I'm very surprised by these things if I am interpreting them right because when I originally got him from the pet store, I was told he was going to "need work"...but he's hardly needed any at all!!

Doesn't sound like needs any work to me. :) Consider yourself fortunate!

I also got my chin from the petstore. She hadn't been handled all her life and she wasn't social at all. I haven't even had her a month and she lets me pet her and such and she is very active and social. As for the holding, most chins won't let you hold them. It is just something that they don't like and usually will never like. Some people have chins that will let you hold them, but most of the time that is only for a limited period and then they don't like it, so it is something your going to have to get used to unless farther down the line she/he starts to let you.

Hmm I agree with Rampuppy. Lol I also bought my chinnie from a petstore, when we got her she seemed like she never wanted to be held but now she seems to be warming up to me and turning out to be "social." She tolerates being held but after about 10 minutes she wants freedom. hehe ;D

Sounds like your humping chinnie likes your boobs! lol That's all I can think of! Just kidding. :|
Well, he lets you hold him which is good. Woodstock is only about 4months and he lets me hold him, but he's hyper so he likes to run from shoulder to shoulder and hop in my lap and stuff. He doesn't really mind when I pet him...except I think his tail is ticklish. He won't let me feel of it without jerking! lol He loves when I pick him up though!
If you want your chin to let you pick him up, try getting him used to your hands. Just sit by his cage with your hand in it talking to him...then he will get used to hands and crawl all over them....when he does that, it probably won't bother him as much when you pick him up. :)

I've bought many pets from pet stores or people who said they "needed work" but I've never had any trouble, I guess chins and other animals just decide who to be nice to and who not to..lol.

When my girlfriend plays with my boys, they ALWAYS hang out on her boobs lol. she thinks its funny. I guess males are the same in any race...

I think any animal you buy from a petstore that is antisocial and not very nice, will warm up to the person who takes the time to play with them, feed them, and do everything else right. It just means they didn't have a lot of attention whenever they were at the store. It is a trust thing, really.

My male took to my boyfriend immediately, and spent most of the time we were walking around the breeder sleeping in Matt's pocket or hanging out on his shoulder. Gus will let me or Matt either one pick him up and hold him, he even goes on little outings with me around school. My female is a different case...she'll run all over me, but as soon as I try to touch her she runs off! It's just a different personality thing, I think...but I think the boys are usually the nice ones!
