Greetings to all from Iowa!
I'm a vet student with interests in essentially everything, but with a special place in my heart for pocket pets. I was fortunate to grow up in a household with a mother who loves all creatures great and small and a very tolerant father. ;)
Currently, I have 2 hedgehogs up here at school with me, and my mom has many others back home. For several years, we have been raising several species of pocket pets from hedgies to sugar gliders to short-tailed possums to chinchillas. At the moment, we have more hedgehogs than anything else.
Exotics don't play much of a role in our curriculum here, but interested students are trying to change that. We have a very active ZEW club (zoo/exotic/wildlife) full of vet students wanting to learn more about all of these wonderful critters. My hedgies have been wonderful teachers in helping my colleagues learn the basics of handling and husbandry! If any of you know of particularly useful websites, books, etc, about any exotics, let me know and I'll pass them along.
Anyway, glad to be here and here's hoping I have the time to be an active member! :)
