New Allergic Hedge Owner

I have loved hedgies for over a decade even though I seem to have a severe allergic reaction. I have tried desparately to find a "CURE" for this but to no avail. If any one has ANY info at all it would be greatly appreciated. I break out in serious hives and swelling wherever my skin has touched the fur (presumably, from the protiens in the saliva) Until now I have not been able to own one (I tried twice before but could not handle them enough) My fiance has decided to be the handler in our home so that we may have this wonderful new addition! :blob1:

Have you tried using rubber gloves so that you can handle him?

We will hopefully be going to pick him up tomorrow, and latex gloves will be the way to go until we come up with an alternative. My biggest problem is that I worry he won't bond very well with me without having my scent available.

welcome to the forum.........I would try the gloves and maybe a long sleeve shirt during the holding times with your critters and see how that works.......good luck and welcome agian!

I would give him one of your shirts to sleep with (that you have previously worn) to help him get used to your scent :)
