Last night while spending time with Schmuzz, we fed her treats and held her a bit and she did about the same as usual, balling and popping alot but towards the end she would unroll and she took treats from our hands 1 cricket and one mealworm and a few pieces of her reg cat food. Problem is ........and maybe its not a problem.......she became really excited and ran around the room quite quickly after a few minutes of slow exploring. Then she would stop and dig and try to pull up the carpet with her teeth! Then she ran over to my photo albums and grabbed the edges of the pages and started tugging and chewing. Then she ran over to the spoon on the floor we had given her bugs on (cause we cant stand to touch em :Pukey: ) and attacked it biting and jumping on it with her front legs. What was she doing? Why all the weird (aggressive?) behavior to things all of a sudden.

So, we picked her up and she balled, but she would quickly unroll and squirm alot and not want to be held or cuddled, but she would return to the odd behavior when we put her down like it seemed she wanted! We were afraid she would hurt her little baby teeth with all the attackin of objects! Is this cause for concern. I think next time we will let her play with us in the bathroom where there is less for her to bite and hurt herself.

Sounds like she is just an explorer personality and is checking out everything. Yes they do sometimes seem to go after things quite agressively especially when they smell something they like. I'm surprised she didn't annoint over what she was tugging and chewing. I'm sure that will come.

I'd tend to think this is a positive change. She's slowly making herself at home with her new family and exploring her surrounding. They are surprisingly fast. When we take ours out we have a 'controlled' space so she can't get away from us and get into trouble. Once in a while we let her run in a run about ball so she can explore by herself without us worrying. But we only do that for 10-15 min and AFTER she's used her litter box. Her biting and tugging at the carpet and spoon mostly likely is due to the smell on them. My girl is not a biter (only bit me and my bf twice due to smell/annoyance long time ago) but when we took her on our trip and I put her on our hotel comforter she started chomping away on the comforter. When I tried to hold her she wouldn't let go of the comforter! I was quite surprised since I've never seen her do that. It was funny. :) I know she did that because they spray Fabreze stuff in hotels like crazy and gives me rash when I lay on it. She was fine when we put her on the sheets. Enjoy Schmuzzle's new inquisitiveness, that's one of hedgie's great attributes IMO. :)

Of course, if I'm wrong about this, more experienced and knowledgeable hedgie lovers will correct me! :)

Thank you so much for the wonderful advice you guys :applause: I was kinda worried about her since iher behavior was so different. What you said makes sense and I will definately keep her in a more controlled space now that she is less shy.. I think I will try the bathroom as suggested by another member, until she is more used to being handled and picked up. That way she can just go go go and the Bathroom will get quite warm too with the door closed!

I thought she may have something wrong with her because she was so squirmy when I picked her up after like she was uncomfortable being held. Usually she loves to be held so I think she is just getting more relaxed and a little frisky!!

I think that this is actually very good news. It means that she is getting much more comfortable with her new surroundings and that she is very curious is a good sign of good health. Lots of engery and the interest in new things is a sign that she is being well cared for and is well loved! I think that putting her in a controlled room is a good idea too. It lets her run and explore without someone haveing to stop her every few minutes to keep her from getting into trouble! I know that after a couple of times of haveing to stop Odo from going somewhere I didn't want her to, she will get mad and just stop exploreing and ball up and go to sleep.
