I read somewhere that you shouldn't give fish flavored canned cat foods to your hedgehog. I had never heard of not being able to give it before, and wondered why you supposedly shouldn't. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The only thing that I can think of is that fishy flavored foods lead to stinkier poops! At least it does in cats.
The only fish that I ever gave to Annabelle was salmon! She absolutely adored it. Plus some fish cat foods are pretty high in fat.

Just like Annabelle, my girl looooves salmon. I get a canned salmon in water (no sodium or preservatives added) from Trader Joe's and they are very cheap. I've tasted it myself and it's quite good. It was surprisingly non-fishy. :)

Have you ever heard a hedgie fishing??? Sorry, I know that is mean, but it placed such a cute pic in my mind.
Other than making hedgies smelly, the only reason that I can think that fish MIGHT be bad is the ash content is higher in the cat foods.

Fatty fish like salmon, albacore tuna, mackerel, trout, etc are high in omega-3 which is very good for everyone, including hediges. You only give them small amount as a treat so I don't really see any harm in that. Depending on how they are cooked and or bought, they can be not fishy at all.
