Hiyas everyone,
This is a question for those of you who own a snuggle-safe heating disc. I got one about 2 weeks ago and it only seems to stay how to 6-8 hours, not the advertised 12 hours. I want my extra 4-6 hours! lol Does this happen often or is mine faulty? I also know I am heating it correctly, I'd followed all directions. Should I ignore the directions and heat it up longer? I wouldn't want to ruin it though.

I think it was advertised as working for "UP TO" 12 hours........re.......in some rare case they found it held some iota of heat still after like 12 hrs. Probably somewhere already warm. Mine says on the box an average of 5-7 hrs and that is about what I get. It also says not to heat up again until completely cold.......and I don't, assuming it has a good reason to say that. I know, I was dissappointed too. :banghead:
I am going to try the ceramic disks that you screw into light socket in a special heat resistant recepticle. They say right on the box the number of hours and I think its like 4 years. Also says very economical to run............i guess that depends on whos idea of economical you are using. I have spent so much on baby this week already, I'm broke till payday. I will buy one in the next 2 weeks tho. :)

Ack! I wish I had known. Well I guess 5-7 hours is ok. I usually only sleep for six so when it's cold out I can give it to her right before I go to sleep. Oh and I know what you mean about spending so much on your hedgie. I've spent so much on mine already! :) It's hard not to spoil them.

Mine only seems to work for about 5-7 hours when I put it under his cage, but when I wrap it in a blanket and put it in his cage it seems to last a few extra hours above that. But I was disapointed, too.

Do your quill kids actually like them? I had purchased 2 about 2 years ago, and neither of my hedgies would even go near it. I ended up returning one and keeping one. I only use it now when one of my hedgies is sick and has to go to the vet. To give them a little extra warmth in their transport cage.
For some reason they seemed scared of it!:scared:

I don't put mine directly IN the cage. I put in on a folded towel with an unfolded towel on top and put that under her cage under where her pigloo sits. I have the usual heat time on mine too but use it for travel now also. Note: in a cool car, it heats for an even shorter time :| :banghead:

Mine loves hers...but my house is usually quite cool (70 degF.) Maybe your house is warmer and they don't need to be as near it?
I have my disk in a disk cover underneath a blanket on top of vellux. It generally stays warm for at least 7-8 hours (actuall warm, not trace warm) and holds some heat for longer than that.

My experience has been that they stay optimum heat for 7-8, and less than optimum but stillwarm 10-12. When I first got mine, gosh I guess its been 3-4 years now, it didn't stay warm very long. I finally figured out that the wattage of my microwave was not as high as I thought and I had to warm the disk longer. Something you may want to check.
Also, they need to be wrapped and the colder the room/floor the shorter the time is they stay hot.
I only use mine for traveling and sick hedgehogs.
