I am courious as to what everyone here thinks. I am going to be getting a chin soon and I am leaning towards a female. The whole hair ring seems like a big hassle. I know every chin has a diffrent personalty but if you were to generalize both male and female chins which one do you perfer, and why. Also which one has the nicest disposition.

If I had to generalise (which is really, really hard to do!).... I'd get the boys. Only because they don't pee in their bathhouse, and don't make as much of a mess around their cages. Go figure, it's the girls who are real slobs. LOL
But then again, the females are alpha, so I guess they are more into the domination thing.

i don't think hair ring is as much a problem if you only have one chin. i think girls are cuter just because they are usually a little larger in size, but there are other things to worry about. I had one of my chins die because of an uterine infection. I took her to the emergency room once i noticed that she wasn't as energetic as she was normally and she had to stay overnight for liquids and antibiotics. I went to visit her the next day, and while i was on the way, the vet call to tell me that she passed away. I wrote this because you wouldn't have this problem with male chins. i hope that helps.

You can't compare males to females. Every chin is different.

Yeah, i'd have to agree with ya.
I guess if I was torn between boys and girls, i'd probably find a chinnie that was friendly, easy going, and to my personal liking. Then after I find one I want, check the sex.

For me, I went with female, but that's because we wanted two chins that wouldn't mate. Our breeder has seen less problems with 2 girls together (versus 2 boys together), so girls it is :)
Girls can spray-they can do it with great accuracy, quantity and distance, but only some. Boys seem to be more laid back and don't seem to have the mood swings girls can have, JMOP.

I guess it really depends upon the individual chin. I have ALL male chins. Yes, I have a lot of hairring checking to do, but it is really easy after you do it a few times. Some like to hump more and get them more often than others. I started with boys, and did not want to breed, so I stayed with boys. They can be REALLY nasty toward each other. I have to wash hands in between cages because if they smell each other's scents, they start chasing their own cagemates who they normally like! I have 3 little Hitler chins like that, but they themselves really get along fine. Crazy, isn't it? I heard the females are more nasty to each other, but I think from what I see it is the BOYS. That is, if you have quite a few, anyway. If you just have 1 or two it should not matter, esp. if they are already paired up from the time you get them.

Humm now I am starting to lean towards boys. The hair ring thing just sort of grosses me out but I guess I would get over it after the first few times. Oh well I get to see both boys and girls tonight :) excited. To bad both me males tonight are the white ones. If they are really nice though nicer then all the chins on saturday I might go with a white one. Who knows I could dye it's hair or something... j/k I doubt that stuff is safe for them. Would be intresting to have a pink or green chin though LOL.
