I personally think loose hay and hay cubes do different things for the chinnie. Loose hay grinds down the back teeth, and it seems that hay cubes work on the front teeth more. (from what I've read.) I would NEVER take out loose hay from your chin's diet.

My chin gets tons of loose hay and a hay cube now and then as a treat. She never used to like them, but now she thinks they're treats, she'll all over them.

Make sure all types of hay is fresh! (sounds like you just got the cubes, so they should be fine.)

My two chinnies prefer the loose hay, but I feed them both. I also have the chin cubes from ChinWorld (half Alfafa and half Timothy) and they don't seem too interested in them either. They liked the 100% Alfafa ones from PetSmart more.

Also, I notice that they seem to just bite off the hay and there's a mess of shredded ChinWorld cube hay on the cage floor. They might not like the taste, but just like to bite on it....strange.

Mine pee on them, expressing their displeasure I guess.
