You know what is ever-so-wonderful? Peanut, my darling Peanut, has a ceramic dish for her water and a plastic one for her food. Well, every night, any time between 11:30pm and 6am enjoys taking her food dish, flipping it over, and hitting it against the side of her enclosure for about an hour or so. She keeps me awake the entire time. After ten minutes, she stops, I almost fall back asleep, and then BAM BAM BAM BAM! Rar! This has happened almost every night for two weeks. I have to go to school and go to work afterwards. I, personally, enjoy sleep. I can't wait to get her new dish...

Try having fire belly toads "chirping" out mating calls to eachother for hours on end. Usually they only do it for a couple minutes, then stop, but last monday they were doing it ALL NIGHT! I ended up sleeping in the basement. *sigh* Chased out of my own room...by toads.

Kirstenroche, I know EXACTLY what you mean. I had the same problem with Kiwi ! I tried ceramic and plastic dish and every night, all she did was to bang those agaist the "walls" of her cage... That means that at night, she tryed to escape...
That was until I give her a bigger cage. Now she has a sterilite plastic bin of 109 liters and another of 80. The two are linked together by a PVC tube. Now, I use just the same plastic dish I had and I don't hear those bangning (sp?) anymore ! Plus, her dish are always super clean (food and water)....
Maybe the solution of the problem is just there: if you give your hedgie a bigger cage, it's gonna be ok.
Good luck !

My hedgie enjoys tipping over her water dish - but never the food dish. I got concerned with her going all night without water (and annoyed to wake up the next morning with half the cage sopping wet) so I carpet - taped it in the corner of her house ;)
Even I have trouble moving it now, when it's time to clean.
