My new hedgehog whistles and squeaks quite a lot. She usually does this after I put her back in her cage, but sometimes while she's exploring or being held.
What's this all about? It's rather cute, but I wouldn't want to think anything is wrong.
Thanks :)

Completely normal. They make these noises when they are happily exploring new areas. My little boy makes them none stop! They are so cute! :)

Odo just grunts. When she is exploring, she sounds like a real pig! lol

My girl is starting to purr a little and today my daughter said she was kind of squeaking too as she was exploring the living room. :)

Chloe squeaks in her sleep. It is TOO cute  Maybe she is having a dream about a jumbo meal worm

The squeaking and whistling can be a sign of contentment, though it isn't often a part of hedgehog vocabulary (I have had very very few hedgehogs in my time that did it).
It can also be a sign of a respiratory or heart failure issue.
When in doubt at all, see your vet.

My male "sings" to my female. It is adorable....until you realize he is talking about mating. :)
