I picked up a jar of baby food, peas, for my hedgie today. Should I mix it in with her dry food or should I put it in a seperate dish?
I mixed in some banana bits with her dry food the other night and she ate some of them, but ignored the raisins. She has also ignored live mealworms. Our working theory is that she has only ever eaten cat food.

My Hedgie doesn't eat Mealies either. And other members correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't raisins a choking hazard for Hedgies?

I've also read many posts stating raisins are hazardous to hedgies. Raisins can get stuck in the roof of their mouths. :(
As to the original post, I'd separate wet foods from cat kibbles. I use one bowl for kibbles and another for 'other' foods such as baby food, chicken, pasta, fruits and veggies. It seems very tricky with hedgies in regards to different food. My hedgie couldn't get enough of plain cooked chicken but couple of nights ago she didn't even have a bite. You just have to keep plugging away with different food and treats. One day they'll love it and another they won't but that can also change!

This is Odo's kitchen. The double bowl "sink" is where she gets dry food on one side and wet food on the other. Then a water bowl beside it and finally a "treat" bowl by itself. Notice that there is also a water bottle. She uses both the water bowl and the bottle. My little girl drinks a LOT of water!
Nancy, notice the "treat" bowl is empty! lol....(by way of explanation, I have been giving entirely too many treats!)

Thanks for the heads up on the raisins. We have a friend who has a hedgie and he loves raisins, but they only hand feed them to him. Since Doris doesn't like them I guess it is a good thing. I will put a little of the peas in there tonight and report tomorrow.

Chloe isnt a mealie lover either (dead or alive). I have been wanting to try crickets but I don't really want to buy a whole jar of them if I'm not even sure if she likes them or not. Have you tried crickets yet?

I just got some new hhs and some of them do not seem to like mealies. Coqui and Taino LOVE them. I also put baby food or wet cat food in a separate container. I use individual yogurt container lids for baby food or wet cat food.

I have not tried crickets yet. I may if I don't find a good treat soon. I just put the baby food peas in her cage and she was awake, but had just eaten. Her nose was going crazy. She almost came out again. I figure I will let her discover them after we have gone to bed and she eats again sometime before we get up. It is some stinky stuff.

Well I can't tell if she ate any of it or not. I am thinking not. I may try again in a few days when she first gets up and eats.

My boys each have two bowls, one for regular food and one for treats. Trust me they know which bowl is for "treats" because thats the bowl Tico will lunge for first. Its funny, I have them on a routine so, I change their food out at night before i go to sleep. And Tico has picked up on this, so now he waits right by where his food bowls would be until I put them there. As soon as I put them down he goes right to the treat bowl.
I eat wheat pasta because its better for you, does anyone think it would be detrimental to feed hedgies cooked wheat pasta instead of regular?
