 I have a bit of everything. Most of mine are in hedgie condos which I made.

I have 3 of these condo units. I also have the large clear rubbermaid/sterlite bins and also plastic bottomed rabbit cages.

Aquariums are not recommended. A size large enough for a hedgehog is heavy and difficult to clean. They also do not provide adequate ventilation.

I think the clear bins are by far the easiest and most economical. :)

This is Odo's three room condo. I have about $30.00 invested. One room is her gym, then her bedroom and then her kitchen. It less than 1 hr. to make. The auqairum (sp?) in the background was her temp. home until I made her condo. Hope this helps. The front of the bins are cut out and covered wtih vinyl mesh so she gets plenty of fresh air.

I also use storage bins. They work nicely and are easy to clean! Here is a picture of my girl's condo:

My boys are in a cat climbing gym thingy that I sort of renovated. I made it into two separate levels, and its a wire cage with plastic bottoms.

I house my hedgie in an aquarium. It is about 45 gallons.
I bought it under the impression that hedgies shouldnt be house in something with wire sides because they would climb it, and unfortunently, I didnt hear about the storage bins intime.

However, aside from it being heavy like Nancy said, I havent had any other problems with it. I keep a digital thermomenter in there, to make sure it doesnt get too hot. I have a heat pad set on low that stays under one of his hideways (so that he has the option of going to a warmer place, or a cooler place, as needed) . As well, I always have my ceiling fan on low to keep the air moving in my room.

Cleaning doesnt pose much of a problem since I use liners, and have a litter tray under his wheel. Every couple days I change the liners and spot clean the litter. I havent had any problems with smell lingering inside.

One of the things I dont like about the aquarium (aside from it being rather bulky, and hard to move) is that you cant expand it much. My boyfriend helped me build a second level for bosco, but I wish that I could attach another room to his house like I would be able to if I had used the plastic bins.

Here is a link to what my boys house looks like :

If I had to do it again, I would go for the plastic bins :) But for now, this is working out just fine.

We made a cage out of acrylic and wire storage grids. In the next week we are going to replace the acrylic with coroplast (corregated plastic). I work for a plastics company so I have unusual access to these materials. They basically cut the acrylic to my specifications and I glued it together. I will try to post a pic of it soon.

I house my hhs in several types of different housing. I use a large my first home cage (wire with a plastic bottom), sterilite bins, and I also have a large airline style dog crate which I house my females in. :) I can put two wheels in it and they still have room to run around and tube.

I have C & C cube cage connected to sterilite bin cage with a pipe. We've been meaning to add second story to the C & C cage portion but haven't had time to do it yet. :(

Laura, your aquarium hedgie home looks nice. Roxy is CUTE! She looks a lot like my furry princess. :)
