Pregnant Mother Weight

Hello Everyone

I was just wondering if any one knew the average weight gain of a prego hedgie. Like after 1 week 2 weeks ......... 35 days.

In my experience (5 years + of breeding) there is not really an amount that can be given as an average weight gain. I have had some girls lose a little weight during pregnancy and still deliver a healthy litter, and one girl that went from 280 grams to slightly over 600 grams, and only have two babies.
With human moms, they typically gain about (if I remember correctly) 25-30 lbs to deliver an approximately 8 lb baby. With hedgehogs, the babies only weigh around 8 grams at birth, so proportionally, that would have hedgehog moms ideally gaining around 25-30 grams. Which isn't that much, since you have to be aware that some hedgehogs have been known to.... um.... excrete close to 25 grams in one bathroom visit. Too bad most hedgehog moms IMO don't pay much attention to making their owners happy by following a predictable weight trend.
One thing I am willing to say, most of my moms don't gain much weight at all until around the 3 week point in pregnancy.

Thank you very much my prego mom gained about 90g and she is huge. Is it normal for them to start gaining weight within the first week of pregnancy. I mean my hedgie started gaining weight almost imedatly after breeding.

I think i get the weight gain thing. It is just like a human each hedgie and each pregnancy is different

It isn't extremely unusual for them to gain weight early in the pregnancy, but usually not much, unless you have recently changed their diet to a higher impact "pregnancy" ration.

I agree with Becca, the weights can go all over the board. My luck has been the moms that gain a lot of weight have smaller litters than the moms who gain say 50 to 70 grms.
I've had moms gain over 100grms and deliver one baby, I had another mom gain 50 grms and she delivered 6 babies. Go figure.

thanks. It is extremmly weird. I wuess i will just have to wait and see how many babies i get and if my other hedgie is preg.
