Just like people, it totally depends on the hedgehog. At 6 months the range could be 200g or less to 800g or more.
There is really no average weight for any age.

thanks :)
I need to build a travel box and the regulations to how much space they need goes by weight you see. :)
I'll do it by maybe 900g so they should have enough space to move around a bit :)

what i have learned is you need to look at the hedgies parents and their size if they are big there is a good chance your hedgie is going to be big if they are small you hedgie will be small. I have a old hedgie that when i got her bearly weighed 200g. I was worried about her weight so i gave her high calorie eucanubia cat food (this is just lately because i found she had medical problems and the vet suggested it to out weught on her) i also have a vitamin call High-Cal that will put weight on a hedgie. But now i am worried because she is over weight she put on about 100g in one week she hasnt gained much more weight but she is going on a diet.

I agree with Teasels Mom; just like humans, they come in different shape and size.
I read that there are some signs though if they are obese or fat :
- hedgehog cannot ball completely
- they have yellow patchs under armpits.

Abbey, can you ask the people you are getting the hedgehog from before you go? Everyone is right, there just isn't a way to tell by the age of a hedgehog. I had a brother sister pair who grew up to be 290 grams and 500 grams. Same litter, yet completely different sizes.

A 100g weight gain in one week and then being put on a diet is not healthy for her. Bulking up a skinny hh is fine but it needs to be done with caution so the hedgehog does not get overweight. Just like in humans weight gain and then dieting is not a healthy solution to anything.
Yes you can somewhat judge the size a hedgehog will be by looking at its parents but not always. Hedgehog genetics go back 8 generations.
I have a pair here who are just average sized hogs yet their son and daughter are huge compared to them. The girl is twice the size of her mom and dad both in weight and length. :)
