wire wheels are dangerous for hedgies and should never be used. they could seriously be injured. i am hopefully getting one, its like the one jules_77 has, but bigger.

That's right! No wire wheels, or wire mesh wheels.

I voted wire wheels, I am thinking about trying a bucket wheel but I really like the wire mesh wheels I have. They are small enough (openings) to prevent injuries and I keep my hedgie's nails clipped all the time to prevent nails getting caught and torn. What I like best about them is that the poo and pee usually falls through the wire while they run instead of getting stuck on the hedgie.

I have a bucket wheel that Sary made. It's great, and Fluffy LOVES it. The only problem is that he poops and pees in it...and then runs around in it. When we get up in the morning it looks like he's been finger painting. :Pukey: I really didn't see a need for giving a hedgie a bath...until the wheel arrived. Now, the little squirt needs a bath every day, or at least a good walk around the sink to clean his little paws. I have a litter box, but we're not making progress in training. Oh well. At least I know he's using his wheel....in more ways than one!!

I have 2 bucket wheels from Sary. These are the best!!! Contact Sary at thesary@gmail.com, these wheels are quiet and clean up easy!

I also have a number of the 12" size comfort wheels. They are great too but not as good as the bucket wheels from Sary. The comfort wheels make a bit of noise while the bucket wheels do not. Also the comfort wheels have raised lines on the insides and the texture of the plastic does not make cleaning as effortless as the bucket wheels. I soak my wheels in warm water with pine sol. Then I just rinse them with warm water and wipe them down with a paper towel. The bucket wheels come clean easily, the comfort wheel needs to be wiped a bit. I have to soak some wheels daily and others can go for several days. I even have one little guy that has not made a mess on his wheel yet. :)
