My fiancee is allergic to everything but chins,a few breeds of dogs and hedgies. I think the most that could happen is a reaction to the saliva....or the bedding...so use something like yesterday's news (bedding made out of newspaper) good luck!

I find that sometimes if Bosco has been annointing, and I get pricked by his quills, I will get a weird itchy/burny sensation in that area, but it usually goes away rather quickly. Many other people have reported the same thing.
As far as the bedding, it is usually the dust that people are allergic to (wood shavings etc), using a bedding that has less dust would be the way to go. Liners are great as there is no dust from them at all. And something like yesturdays news, or even paper towels in the littler box will eliminate dust.

Sounds like what I have read here for people who were allergic to the bedding. I have allergies now to all sorts of animals where I never had any to any animals at all until about 3 yrs ago. So, certainly allergies can develop, where there were none before. I only find I get itchy on my hands if she pokes me really good. :banghead: This happens whether she has been annointing or not.......for me, if I did seem to be sneezy all of a sudden around her I would try to track down if it was herself or something just associated with her such as the bedding. Good luck with your search! :)

I sneeze alot in the morning, take claritin everyday and sometimes get the same shortness of breath & coughing (usually in my room where Horlicks is) and usually either in the morning or at night. He doesn't use bedding, we use the corduroy pads custom made, and yesterday's news. I'd suggest cleaning his cage, especially his "bathroom" out as frequent as possible.

Oh, and sometimes my fingers start itchy and go a little swollen and red after I touch my hedgie too.
