Do you take your hedgehog outside to play?
I have heard that letting Jake play in the yard is not a good idea because he might get mites. Also because of possible pesticides/contaminants on the grass or in the dirt.
But I have heard some owners and breeders talk about setting up a pen outside and letting their hedgies play.
Obviously November in Oregon is not the time of year to play outside, but aside from that, what do you think about outside time?

Funny story--I went to my friend's apartment the other day to check on her birds while she was out of town and found a big plastic tub with a layer of grass in the bottom sitting under a light. She was making a little grass playground for her hedgie! It was so cute! She got unfertilized sod from somewhere and put a layer in the bottom. Then she watered it and gave it light and now has the cutest playground ever for her hedgie!

What a smart idea. Jake lives for snuffling and burrowing and digging. An indoor park would be a great idea since it stays cold here for so long.

The grass idea sounds so inventive! What a smart friend. I would just love to do something like that for my hog. So she just put sod into a plastic container and waters it and gives it light and it stays fresh? Sounds so simple yet so perfect!! I also have the same question about being outdoors on the grass etc. I'm interested to hear what others have to say! :applause:

I'll have to grow some here too, it might be hard right now, because it is winter, and cold!
