Well, today was a good day.

i have been thinking for some time now about getting my first hedgie. i have started to do all my research that should be involved!
Im more than excited about it! I actually talked Chris into letting me have two. (or at least for now) *wink wink* hehehe ;)

we were at the pet store today & there was a cute cute little boy in there. i dare not buy one from the pet store though, seeing they couldnt even give me a 100% answer is he was really a HE.
i held him & he was nice, he uncurled for me & looked right at me. lol it was so cute!!!!! i had seen them before, but never held one. it was such a neat experience. They are so much cuter that some of the pictures i have seen lol.

i think it will still be a while before i actually get a hedgie, but i just though i would tell the good news.(i couldnt help myself!) =]=]=]

hehe i was actually kinda nervous to hold him! Chris couldnt believe it, he was like, ' YOU scared of an animal?'
hehe, heck yeah, i didnt know if i would get bitten or stabbed with a quill. they felt a lot different that what i expected!

needless to say, if you have any info on being a new owner that you would like to share, please do! i would love to hear your stories & all the good info about them!
or pictures!!! =]=]=] still debating what colors i want to get. :)

also if you know of any good breeders to go through (around me) please recommend some good ones!

thanks a lot everyone! *& hedgies!* :D

Hi Kate,

I recommend hedgehogvalley hedgies......Tig is a great breeder, who really cares about her hedgies and she is willing to go to great lengths to assist you. She had to ship mine to Canada. My champagne hedgie named Otzi the Iceman, is such a sweet and calm little boy.....I am so happy with him. I recently did a lecture on hedgies to a learning disabled class and within minutes they were petting Otzi. So, if they could pet and hold a hedgie anyone can. www.hedgehogvalley.com (http://www.hedgehogvalley.com)

thanks!!!! i will for sure put them into the mix of breeders to go through!!! i found a really nice lady in indianapolis that breeds, USDA licensed, very informative, & helpful.. i need to dig up her name again & see if anyone has heard of her.
but again- it will probly be about a month at the least that im going to wait.
(not to mention i have like 9 chinchillas females about to pop.) so i shall be a busy bee!

again, thanks so much for the suggestion!
how much was shipping? how much do they charge for the animals? im sure with hedgies, as with chinchillas, you get what you pay for..right?

I am so glad to read that your doing research before getting a hedgie. That shows maturity and intelligence. I have come to find out that they are unique unto themselfs and are unlike any other animal in the world. To learn as much as you can BEFORE getting a quilly little friend is just good common sense. :applause:
Good luck in your search when you decide to get one, and of course any questions that arise (and I am sure there will be plenty, no matter how much research you do because they have such distinct personalitys and each one is so different than another) I am sure that everyone on this board would be more than happy to help answer them. There are quite a few awesome experts on hedgies here. I have learned so much just by reading through the threads. (I ask a lot of questions myself!!lol)
Keep us posted!!

hehe yeah, i come across a lot of people that dont look into their pets before getting them, & that never results in anything good. normally just a homeless animal. =/
im so happy we have such great ways to learn now days. when i got my first chinchilla there were NO websites about them, & hardly anything in the book selection!!!
boy- we sure have come a ways!
thanks for all the positive info! i am sure i will be asking a number of questions when i bring my littles home!! (or at least be posting many pictures!!!!!) ;)
