I am so proud!!!

I just trimmed Jake's nails for the first time. I know this sounds silly, but I was really worried.

I got him as a rescue about 2 weeks ago and his nails were horrible. Very long and poo-crusty.

So followed everyone's advice and let him run around in the water for a while to loosen up the dirt. Then I held him until he unrolled, gently captured his leg, used an old toothbrush to clean his feet, then I did it! :applause:

I didn't cut the quick and we both survived the ordeal. After he discovered that he was not getting away from me, he settled down and just resigned himself to the fact that he was getting a manicure.

By the way, found a vet in my area that has hedgie experience. Jake's first proper vet visit is the end of the week. Wish us luck. I am already so attached to him that I would hate to find anything wrong.

Isn't that a great feeling! The success of a nail trim where neither of you were yelling! :)

So, how do you hold a hedgie still when trying to trim it's nails? I had my husband hold Alina last time I tried to trim her nails and I think he enjoyed the experience less than she did. My hedgie is very squirmy.

Congrats on the nail trimming success! I was so nervous the first time I did and so relieved once it was over.

Oh wow. Congrats. Orion and I are not due for that for a long time. He's still balls up when I enter the room and so I'm going to wait until he's a tammer little hedge before he pokes more holes in me. Kirsten.
