OK, take my advice do not bend close to your hedgie to get a sniff to make sure he doesn't need a bath. Yup, you guessed it I got a quill up the nose. LOL so funny, Kirsten.

Haha, nice. That reminds me of the time when I was putting halloween make-up on and I brought Chloe up to my face to talk to her and she bit me! It happened so fast! Later I smelled the make-up and it had a fruity scent, which explains the nip. Silly hedgehogs, always full of surprises including painful surprises.

I read a post on here awhile back, someone had lifted their hedgie to get a good close look at it's eyes, and I think the quote was: "Little begger bit me right on the nose!" I remember I laughed for hours!

Oh no. I have yet to get bit and didn't even know they would do so. Should I be worried? He seems so docile except for the rolling and poking.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you. I have been nipped several times but never actually bitten. I should have said nipped in my story instead of bitten. Yes, they can bite or nip. Some do more than others, and then some don't nip or bite at all. Depends on your hedgie. It's kinda rare to actually be bitten though it happens. A nip dosent really hurt as much as it startles. Reasons they may nip include: 1. Something tasty left on your hands or fingers. I always wash my hands before and after handling. 2. To show displeasure and if your holding them in a way that they find uncomfortable. 3. To train you to their way of thinking!
Really, to me getting nipped is no big deal. Odo and Marco have given me little nips here and there but I have yet to have one actually hurt.

Thanks, I'm not really that worried just wanted to know what to expect from my little angel. I own an iguana who leaves scars up one side of my arm and down the other. Oh and that's just by accident when he gets mad he bites and iguana's have 3 sets of teeth!!! In case you are worried all our animals are family members for life no matter what they do. It's the rule you take it out of a pet store or in off the street it's your responsibility. My only problem is how to keep from getting another 1 or 5 or 6. LOL, Kirsten.
