I just brought home my new hedgehog girl, Fiona. She's two, albino and blind. She's also twice as big as my first hedgehog. I'm not sure how to handle her. I have small hands and that extra oomph behind those quills is killing me! Is it okay to pick her up using a piece of fabric? Will she not bond with me if I hold her with the fabric? I know she's a very sweet girl and just being shy right now but... OUCH!

how about using an old tee shirt, that you have been wearing? That would still let her get to know your smell and save your hands until she calms down a little. JMO

Yea it is best to use your hands when picking her up. I agree that an old t-shirt in her cage would be good for her to get used to your scent. Congrats on the new one! Post pictures when you can! Where did you get her btw? :)

I got her via Prickly Creek Exotics from a good breeder in Ohio. She's a retired mommy hedgehog. I'll post pictures as soon as I get a chance.

The advice on the t-shirt with your scent is great. Also try putting her favorite treats on your hand and let her eat them. Hold your hand flat and you may want to give this some time since she also has to get used to your scent and you. Sometimes it takes my hedgies a while to want to eat out of my hands.
