So I was at the mall today trying to get some christmas shopping done, and as always I just had to look at the petstore to see what kinds of cuties they had. I was looking around when I noticed a sign that said "Large male hedgehog $69.99 with the purchase of a starter kit". Of course I had to take a look at him...

OH MY GOODNESS! I have never seen a hedgie so fat. This guy has to be about 2.5 times the size of Bosco. He was huge! I held him for a bit, and he waddled around in my arms, when I put him back in he went right over to his food bowl and started chowing down.

I made a joke about him being a little piggy to the girl that was helping me, and commented that maybe he wouldnt be so big if he had a wheel. She said that he wasnt using the one the one they had given him :( I have a feeling that the wheel he had just wasnt big enough for him, and most likely was made of that wire mesh since that is the type they sell there.

Anyway, she then went on to say that this guy had been impregnating all of the females that they had put in there!!! I could not believe that they would even think of putting females in with any male! Like honestly! What do you think is going to happen?

Point of this rather long rant is...Id really like to buy this guy and give him a good home, maybe help him lose some weight, since he is obiously in need of it. But, I just dont know where I would put him...my room is so full of animals already. Im feeling pretty discouraged about the entire thing...

Part of me just wants to buy him and worry about the details later. But I hate the thought of impulse buying when it comes to another living thing...Im not too sure what I should do. Poor Fudge :( (thats what I nicnamed him hehe)

That's so sad. I wonder what they are feeding him? It seems like that don't have a clue about hedgehogs. What did they think he would do with the females? Some people can be so dumb! I mean, that's just common sense.
Nancy has some pretty cool cages that are stacked like a wall unit. Maybe you could have a look at those and see if that is feasable for you. I hate as much as you do that poor guy is living like that. Wonder what size wheel they tried him on? One made for a mouse? Did it ever cross their mind that him being so fat is cutting down on his life span? $69.99, is that the price of a hedgehogs health these days? That burns me up! You have to do what your heart tells you. Not buying on impulse is smart, but just between you and me,, I hope you get him. I know you would give him a good home. Please let us know if you do.

That's what I did with one of my chins...they had a special buy the cage and the chinchilla is free...So I said...how much for just the chin? So I wheeled and dealed and saved her for a mere $60...so try that and see if they will give you a deal??

Good luck!

Poor little guy, or shall i say huge guy. I understand about not wanting to impulse but and that is smart. Do some soul searching and see how you feel about it. I hope the decison comes easy for you. Good luck!
