Yay! I finally heard back from Cleo's Breeders yesterday! They weren't really sure which hedgie I had of theirs (since I got her through the pet shop) but we narrowed it down to 2 possible since they sent 2 chocolate girls there around the time I got Cleo. They assured me that her line has no health problems/etc, and they gave me tons of tips on good food etc. They're both (a couple) really nice people! :) They were shocked to hear about my history with the pet shop (the last 3 pets I got there died in less than a few weeks and two in only a few days). They have recently stopped breeding their hedgie's so I'm glad none are going to the pet shop! (even though I doubt they would after the stories I told 'em) I refered them here since they are trying to sell off about 5-6 hedgie's that they aren't keeping as pets. They kept mentioning that they have hedgie's for sale, lol, Don't Tempt me!! hehe Anyways I'm not positive if I will ever breed Cleo, I still have some research to do, but I'm glad to know that I can feel safe about her genes if I do. Can anyone here tell me what percentage of hedgie moms die from child birth? That's a big factor in my decision to breed her, I wouldn't want to loose my baby! :(

Just a question but did they give you documentation? I mean anyone could say that there have been no health problems but how do you really know? Most breeders give lineage, and documentation. Not to discourage you but it seems like they could just say that their hogs are healthy etc, but how do you really know?

I know I worried about that too. I asked for a pedigree, but they aren't really sure which hedgie I have since both the girls sent there were chocolate and around the same age. I think I remember there being yellow dye on Cleo when I got her so I'll call them back and mention that, maybe that could help them find out which she is :) They did say that both girls they sent came from healthy lines, one from 2 generations of hogs they have and the other was from a new hedgie that they bought (from another breeder) pregnant. Anyways I'll let you all know if I can find anything else out. I'm still not sure if I'll breed Cleo though, there's lots to consider. Anyone have any thoughs about the question I asked above?
