Hey everyone! With Christmas and the holidays coming up just around the bend, it's time to start thinking about holiday baking!

So to help everyone out, I was thinking we could all post our favorite seasonal recipes :)

I'll start us off... Rice Pudding

3/4 Cup Medium or long grain rice
1 1/2 Cup Water
1/4 Teaspoon Salt

4 Cups Milk (1% or 2%)
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla

Raisins and Cinnamon to taste
________________________________

1. Bring rice, water and salt to a simmer of med-high heat. Simmer until all water is absorbed (usually about 15-20 minutes) - (you can use already cooked rice)

2. Stir in milk and sugar. Cook uncovered on medium heat until mixture turns into a porridge like consistency, usually about 30-40 minutes.

3. About 5 minutes before finished cooking, add raisins.

4. DO NOT OVERCOOK or pudding will become solid once it cools. (if this does happen, you can add more milk and mix it up a bit)

5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.

6. Spoon into bowls and sprinkle with cinnamon.

I think most people like this cool, but I love to eat it warm off the stove ^_^

So let's have everyone else's favorite holiday recipes!

I personally like peppermint hot chocolate.

All you need is one small candy cane and one steaming cup of coco. Place the candy cane into the drink and let it disolve. It tastes wonderful! :)

I'm scotish so mY favorite holiday treat would have to be Shortbread cookies..yumm yumm :slurp:

1 c butter; 8 oz at room temp
2/3 c Fruit sugar; 4 oz
1 c Cornstarch; 4 oz
1 3/4 c flour, all purpose; 8 oz

* I recommend using the food processor and NEVER grease the baking sheets*

In a food processor or by hand, cream butter and sugar together until light
and fluffy. Sieve cornstarch and flour together and gradually beat into
creamed mixture. Knead until smooth. press into 12 X 8 square pan. Smooth
top and mark into "fingers". prick with fork. Bake at 325F for 50 minutes.
If shortbread starts to brown, turn down to 300F. Recut fingers and dredge
with fruit sugar while still warm. Cool in pan.

Chinlover124 - this might be what you are looking for! I haven't tried these yet. I've been dying to bring them to my family's Christmas brunch but baby bro always does a sausage-apple braid... Seems simple enough. I'd imagine that substituting your favorite Italian (maybe use mozz cheese?) or chicken/turkey sausage (using Jack cheese?) wouldn't be a problem at all.

Sausage Balls

2 cups Bisquick
1 16 oz. package Jimmy Dean ground fresh pork sausage
1/3 cup milk
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Combine all ingredients and form into little meatballs. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
