After her escape on sunday night while we were sleeping, we found Stella and she is no longer with us...thank you to everyone for all the help they offered us when we were searching for her, but we were just too late...

I know that this is a horrible tragedy and I am so sorry to learn of poor Stella, but I hope you can keep in mind that somewhere out there is another hedgie who needs your love. There are so many homeless hedgies and so few people who are special enough to love them. You are one of the few. I don't know how far Ontario is from you, but you might want to take a look at the thread in the General Topic's forum started by Supercow. She is parting with two albino boys and they need a good home. I do know how your hurting right now. I too have recently lost a beloved pet who was a member of my family. What happened is not your fault. Stella escaped, true but that in no way makes you a bad mommy. Lot's of hedgies have escaped before. Not all of them made it back home. Please don't take this the wrong way, but sometimes things happen for a reason. I wanted Buddy, a rescue hedgie so bad and even though we here on the board were able to keep him out of the zoo, he went to another home and I was crushed. It broke my heart even though I knew he went to a good home. Not one week after that, the same shelter emailed me that they had another hedgie. This was Marco. Buddy was used to people and although not neglected, he had had a decent life before the shelter. Marco, on the other hand was a school project and terrified of people. I got Marco, he now lives with me. What I am trying to say, is that although I wanted Buddy so bad, Marco needed me more. Sometimes things happen for a reason. I don't know you but I can tell that you have a lot of love in your heart to give. Somewhere out there is a hedgie who needs that love. Please think about it.

I've been following your story and have had my fingers crossed for you
I'm sorry it turned out this way, I've never had a hedgie, but they must be quite special little creatures. Please don't let this deter you from someday getting another hedgehog, it was a blameless accident. I can tell by your posts that you are a good pet mum
