Any ideas why my hedgie loves licking people? I am concerned that he may take it upon himself to bite after he is done his tasting. He is not at all mean but we are not sure if the licking is a sign of affection or just curiosity. It doesn't matter if your hands are washed or who you are, he will sit and lick your hand and arm untill you get unerved and move it. Any ideas or comments would really be appreciated. THX

Last week, Kiwi was licking me like crazy :p (for the very first time) and I didn't know why until I realize that it was because I had put some perfume on my arm near my hand. This is a "popular" place to put perfume and maybe it is what interest him...

Here's one for the old timers! :)
JMO, but if it has teeth, there is always the chance for a bite. I have had Odo lick me, then take a nip, not a bite but a nip and then annoint over it. Never did find out what was so tasty to her. She hasn't done it since and I always wash my hands before handling. I would like to see the answers to this questions because I think that would be important information that I could file away.

Well the chance is always there that he may bite but I have found if they are going to bite they usually do it after just a couple of licks. I honestly think some of them just like the way we taste or else it is a way of showing affection. Hey, dogs do it.

Schmuzz has licked me once or twice, but each time after one lick, I took the object of licking away worried that a bite may follow. She has never bitten me or my daughter though she is handled every day by us. She did bite my hubby once for apparantly no reason. This was not preceded by a lick he says. Hm Go figure.

Ok so here is my idea, lick them back and see how they like it? maybe they like how you taste and maybe you'll like how they taste. :D maybe its not the best idea, cause it would probably make no sense to a hedgie but it would still be funny.

I would just love to be a fly on the wall while your picking out those quills off of your tounge!
Chupa licks me all the time even though my hands are washed. sometimes ill just pull away after a little while or he'll just stop after a little bit, but sometimes he does bite. but when he does its always after a lot of licks.
