Are you forward to the breeding of dwarf chins or against the breeding of them?

(I don't mean you go and breed them. I mean would you like ppl to breed them.)

I would say against unless you know what you are doing. Since dwarves are not just small tiny chins. True dwarves have huge heads that can get stuck during birth just like dwarf rabbits and end up being stillborn.

I figured this would be easier to see the results, if there was a poll for it, so I added one for you. :) Happy voting! I have added kissinthedark's vote for her since she'd already posted by the time I got the thread modified. :)

I honestly know of ONLY one person I would say ahs the ability to breed draves as she knows hte risks, she knows what to do in case of those risks and she knows how to properly identify a dwarf as it is VERY tricky ( I knwo from experience) and that is Kindra.

I'd say it depends who is breeding them. I wouldn't think they would be good for anyone to just breed and wouldn't advise it for just anyone.

What I have read is that dwarves may have problems and some are sterile and generally it isn't an event that should happen often in nature, so i suppose we shouldn't make it happen more often because we think it is cute. So I guess I would disagree with the breeding of dwarves, although small chins are nice, so breeding for a small and healthy chin (not a dwarf) I would agree with.

I completely disagree with it. I do not think it is right to breed for animals that are "disabled". Dwarfs have health problems and normally die at an earlier age. Their organs are typically too big and crowded for their little bodies.
Dwarfism is a genetic defect, and me being disabled I take this subject to heart. They may be cute and all, but its not right.
If they were just small and proportioned in size like we have done with many miniture dog breeds, that may be different. But they aren't.
Also might I add, that lots of miniture dog breeds do also have lots of health problems.

I had to vote against it b/c I would rather people tried to breed for pigmy chins instead of dwarfs. Pigmy animals don't have the defects that dwarfs have and I must agree with EyesOfTexasChin b/c I had a very dear friend who is a dwarf and she has to have so many surgeries that even though we still talk if we can see each other, she goes far away for her surgeries so we aren't able to be good friends any more. I know that dwarfism is a handicap and not just a size difference. So, it would be okay to breed pigmy animals (small, yet proportioned...like the African Pigmy Hedgehogs on this site!!), but not dwarfs unless it could be proven that they could live long healthy lives just like the "normal" chins.

I am against any propagation of a genetic defect in a race. Look at all those dogs with multiple health problems because someone wanted to make the breed "better" Chins are fine the way they are, they don't need tobe bred into something that is already freakish when it occurs in nature!

Thank you^^

I'd actually go on better if they are small because of selective breeding.

But genetic disorders? Not me!
