Ok so as most of you know by now, I'm getting a new addition to my family this coming thursday, and I was wondering what I should expect the first day, or first couple of days, I have thursday and friday and saturday off work so I will be able to watch him like a hawk, so i'm just wondering what I might expect from him. Well if you have any idea let me know.

Green poop, not eating and possibly shy until he is used to you.

Hedgies get green poop from a diet change or stress. This can be a normal looking poop with a slight green tinge or neon green jelly like. It is best if you keep him on the same food he has been eating and change him over very gradually.

Sometimes they don't eat much for the first few days in a new home. You can count his kibble to see how much he is eating. Make sure he is pooping.

If he is used to a water bowl, make sure you give him a water bowl. If switching to a bottle make sure you give both until you are sure he can use the bottle.

Put a dirty t-shirt in his cage with him which will help him get used to your smell. Make sure it has no loose threads that can get caught around tiny toes.

Good luck. Can't wait for pictures. :)

These are just a few sites that have a lot of information. It would be much easier for you to visit these sites because there is just too much you need to know and not enough room to type it here! lol :) Good luck with your first day, I know mine was nothing like I expected! It didn't take me very long to learn that hedgies are so very different than any other animal I have ever had. I have had Odo for over eight months now, and learn many things every day. This board has all kinds of really good information, just browse around the different threads. I learned so much just by reading.

I knew about the green poop, and I knew not eating part. I'm gonna keep him on the exact same food he is on now, mostly cause its easy for me to get. I'm gonna put part of a shirt in with his travel cage so he can start getting used to me on the way back. And he already has a water bottle so thats going to be the same at his new home. So if theres anything else let me know. And I've throughly read those websites, I just wanted to make sure I didnt miss anything.
