I was actually scared to pick him up at first and even had to use soft fleece gloves. But my first thoughts were, "Oh this poor little thing!" He rolled up in a ball and was hissing. He was so little and scared.
Now, when I pick up Razzle, he crawls up my arm, bats me with his paws and looks for his treat bowl. So much for shy!

I was startled by how cute she was and how much the quills did _not_ hurt. I was also very suprised by how sociable she was. She didn't care about being held and touched so much as she cared about being restrained.
It's kinda like thinking snakes are slimy when they are nothing of the sort. (Not that I ever thought snakes were slimy. Just the same kind of misunderstanding.)

I was nervous too, before I went to visit Sonic. A spent the entire week before getting anixous about how it was going to hurt or he wouldn't like me, I was going to be terrible hedgie mom and wouldn't be able to get one, etc. ect.
Well, the moment of truth arrived, and the breeders just put him in my arms and went to help someone else. Sonic just nuzzled into the crook of my arm and fell asleep - even in his last days, that was his favorite place to sleep!

I had begged and begged my parents for a hedgehog and finally convinced them that a hedgehog would be a great pet. So then when I picked up Chloe for the first time I thought to myself "Oh no, she's so sharp and prickly, Mom n Dad were right...(every teenager's worst nightmare)." As she peed and pooped on me I thought that she was not nearly as nice as I had imagined. After 15 minutes or so, I had fallen in love (once she had sqeezed as much poop and pee out as possilbe) and she was crawling all over me. I was pretty much determined to love this creature, as terrified as I was, just to prove my parents wrong. In the end, all turned out well. I was only afraid of her for a day and I then realized that her huffing was all talk, no action. By the way...my parents don't exactly know about this story....please don't tell them, it would give them too much pleasure.

 Your seceret is safe with me. But as the parent of an almost teen, it sure is a satisfying story to read!! ;)
The first hedgie I held was at a petshop and when i picked it up it wasnt very afraid at all, but he did raise his quills. but i thaught "Wow, hes really cool." and i didnt care about his quills at all and i just kept petting his back and soon he lowered them. then he ran all around my arms and decided to go poop on me.... and it turned out he was a little sick, for he had diarreah (sp?).... :Pukey: but i still thaught that he was the best small animal i had ever held. But then later chupa was the second hedgie i held and i thaught that he was better than the first. :)

I remember seeing him and getting to hold him and thinking how amazing he is! But when I got him on the train I tried to pick him up and he curled up so fast I jumped! He was hissing and really scared :/ It was like that for months tho, he was slow to trust me

First time I held Odo, I didn't know what to expect. Odo was to be a present to my wife who had a hedgie before we met.
When I held her, she looked up at me, sniffed my shirt, then lay her little chin on my chest and got real still and just stared at me. It was all over for me! I have been her slave every since.
