Chins are very cute, but they don't cuddle or like to be held very long and some of them freak out around little kids, unless you get a wierd one.
They prefer to use their owners as jungle gyms.
They will attempt to chew on anything that they can reach (paper, wood, plastic, cords, etc).
They are really fast and hard to catch, so keep an eye on them.
They will stuff themselves into any hole that is at least 2"
They love to be scratched under the chin, behind the ear, and mine likes the armpit area.
You pretty much can't litter train them, so they will go anywhere, but its very tiny, dry pellets, so easy to vaccuum up.
Females will spray urine sometimes if provoked or marking territory etc
They are quirky and really funny to watch
They can jump pretty high and love climbing on things
They need special feed and are specific on bedding and cages and other things, there are a lot of threads that talk about this stuff, so just go through and pick one, or search. There are a lot of really helpful websites out there too.
I am not an expert by any means, but there are a lot of people who are and if you have more specific questions just ask anyone and they will hopefully try to answer you
Those are some of the quirky things that I noticed about them, they are amazing and so curious and smart though. Let us all know if you decide to get one and look around for breeders in your area too, they can probably get you a healthier chin and a better deal too and give you all sorts of breeder tricks like vet info and stuff.
Good Luck!

That was a really good summary Ashley, you listed the good and the bad. (And they like a lot longer then other small critters)

Go to the FAQs section of this message board - it will give you a lot of useful info. Or just simply type "chinchilla care" into google and I'm sure you'll come up with lots of good stuff.
