View Full Version : Quiet Wheel
Do any of you guys know of any good quiet(when chins run on it) wheels? My parents say they will let me buy a chin only if i can find a quiet wheel because they had a bad experience with my hamster. :banghead:
Thanks

Flying saucer itself is pretty quiet. But if you've mounted it to a wire cage, it's noisy. I hear that on solid-walled cages, most wheels are relatively to very quiet... but if it's mounted on a wire cage, it'll rattle the cage which is fairly noisy. Stabilizing the wheel somehow helps. I've got a fat piece of PVC pipe wedged under my flying saucer on a wire cage, and it's not too bad.

btw chins don't "need" an exercise wheel. As long as your cage has a couple platforms to jump around they can get enough exercise like that. I have two chins presently that dont use wheels and are as healthy as can be. Also, I've heard some breeders dont like the use of wheels as well.

I have one of those superpet ones (Thank God my chins don't chew the plastic... I've modified it a lot- I made a different mount to attach to the cage, and lodged a piece of wood behind it so it doesn't make too much noise.

I have a Leo Braun wheel for my girls. chinworld.com :applause: It is absolutely silent BUT, they get to running so fast it bangs on the side of the cage! I have tried all the others except for the flying saucer. I was worried about the Super Pet solid plastic because of the "bar" in the middle. I heard the chins can injure their backs from arching them to fit inside. I also had the wire mesh one. They started chewing on the wire and that would leave super sharp ends sticking up. Luckily, I caught this right away and saved myself some vet bills!!!!!!!
Oh, i saw a thread on this forum about fixing the Super Pet plastic wheel maybe that would be useful to you.

Yea, now that my chin is older I need to modify yet one more thing on that wheel- I'm going to cut down the bar and attach the wheel to the cage the same way i do now, with a nut and bolt- but i have to make the bolt way shorter now that i'm going to cut down the bar. Can you tell i'm on a limited budget??!!
