Yesterday I bought Chloe lots of crickets for Christmas/her 6 month birthday and this time I gave them to her alive. Wow. I always thought Chloe was a bit on the uncoordinated side but boy can she hunt! She is like a circket vacuum cleaner gone mad. lol. She has actually figured out how to climb into the bin that I am keeping them in. Yesterday she gobbled a bunch down when I set them in front of her but today I decided to see if she would like to chase them around herself. So I put a beach towel on the bottom of my tub (the porcelain is very cold) and I set 1 cricket at a time lose in the tub. I sat in there with her. Her little nose went crazy and she was one hyper little hedge butt. She was running and climbing all over me like crazy and all the time she was sniffing every mm of the tub for crickets. Once she finally found it she would chase it as it hopped around and then finally corner it and gobble it down. It was by far the most fun I have ever seen her have and it was soo adorable. My family thinks she looks vicious when she gobbles them down but I have never been so proud :D lol. Just had to share.

That is awsome, sounds like she had a blast, I wish my hedgies liked crickets, so I could try that with them.

Haha, don't you just love it? Chole sounds just like Pippin. He loves hunting down crickets. He looks quite ferocious when he chases them. He can really get going, running after them, and he eventually corners them and smacks down on them. It's probably the grossest sound I've ever heard when he eats those things. It's ike a crunchy-squelchy noise. Bleg. :Pukey: At least I know he's worked hard for his food, and he may actually lose weight from it! lol.

That just sounds way too cute! Neither of my boys like crickets...and I hardly think they would be impressed by the idea of actually having to go after their food. They rather it come to them.

That is such a great idea and one that i had been meaning to try myself to let Schmuzz try to hunt for her food too. She already 'pounces' on her live worms and dead crickets.........I know she will really enjoy chasing a live one down. I have been giving my tree frogs some really tiny little crickets since my usual place was out. They are about the size of a piece of rice and have been escaping out of the frogs terrarium and getting below to hedgie's cage. I have seen several of them frolickin around in her shavings but I think she must have caught a few cause there were only three to catch and put back today. I just cant stand the thought of them running around my house or I would just leave them in there for her.

I must try the tub trick! Alot less escapees that way!

Only ONE??? Meanie. ;) If you wanna watch a hedgehog have LOTS of fun, dump a nice handful of crickets into the tub for them. *grin* I don't do this frequently, but boy do they love it when I do.
