Hedgie on Maury!

I was flipping channels and was excited to see Maury was doing a Christmas show featuring all kinds of different animals. The second to last animal they showed was a little hedgie! He looked like a chocolate to me, but I'm not too good at colors. :) I was a little disappointed that he was only on for a few seconds, but still!

Did anyone else see it?

I saw it on Maury, looks a lot like price. Didn't know they were ammune to snake venom.........very interesting.......not like mine will ever get bit by a snake.......but its still interesting.

They are not acually immune, according to my studies, but show a great resistance to that type of toxin. They kill snakes by biting the back of the neck and breaking it. They also have high resistance to the type of nerotoxin that most spiders carry. Amazing little creatures they are! Nobody believes me, but when I first got Odo I had her out in the back yard getting some fresh air when Dar screamed at me and started running. There was a black snake wrapped around Odo. I almost had a heart attack! She balled up as soon as it started wrapping around her and it let go real quick. It started to slither away and she caught up to it and grabbed it behind the head. It got away from her again, and she caught it again. All this time I was trying to get her away from it. She knew what she was doing though and finally latched on to it behind the head and killed it. It was a fight all the way! Granted it was a rather small snake, but her quills protected her and it couldn't wrap around her. After I dragged her off, took her back in the house and made sure she was ok, I went back and looked at that snake. It had several of her quills stuck in it's belly. Nobody that I have told believes me so I don't tell anyone anymore. But, it happened.

Odo is a tough girl. She head butts the Punk the cat and runs him away from her food when she is out on freedom time and once I held her while the neighbors dog smelled her and she quilled him. Twice. Right on the nose! Poor Marco is a weanie by comparision. She intimidates him too. The only time that he and she get together is when I have them both out and then under close supervision because I don't want any funny stuff going on. I have seen her run him out of his baggie. Sometimes he is running from her and I pick her up and put her back into her condo so he can explore at peace. She is such a bully! lol
I wish I had thought to film her with that snake, then I would have proof. When that happened is when I started to search out information about their natural enemies and found out that they will kill a small snake and actually eat it.
