no, it should be above 73 degrees! 75 is preferable.

If you're going to have your house any cooler than 75 degF, you need to take steps to keep the cage area warmer. I keep a Snuggle Safe disk warmed and in Alina's cage unless the temperature in the house is ~73 degF. I also have a heat lamp turned on her cage at all times.
(My husband starts to overheat above 73 degF. :( )

I keep the house at 75F myself. I also have a small cermaic heater in the hedie room. I do a belly check for warmth every three or four hours which REALLY gets on their nerves but I am assured that they are warm.

I agree with everyone above. 70 is to low, and your hedgie will attempt to hibernate, which will then cause illness and in some cases death.:(
I keep my hedgies room between 75-80 with the help of a small ceramic heater that I picked up at Walmart for $12.00 about 2 years ago. It is climate controlled, so it kicks on and off when needed.
Hope that helps some.:)

A cermaic heater has a small ceramic disk instead of heating wires. I have used them for years for different things and have left them on for days at a time. They have a thermostat and turn themselfs on and off. They also have a safty buttom on the bottom which turns the unit off if it is tipped over. I have found them to be very safe.

Almost all heaters have safety features to prevent fires from happening. I keep mine on all the time in the winter months and have had no problems in the 2 years I have been using it.
