Last night I had Doris out and she was being so cute. My husband was engrossed in a new video game and I put Doris on his shoulder and I was holding her on there, she likes his armpits and started sniffing that way. She made her way to his armpit with me holding her, then CHOMP! He flinched and she went flying... she ended up behind him in his computer chair. I got her out and she seemed fine. I think he is a little ticked off about it. It is his first bite from her.

It's weird, but both of my hogs love the smell of human sweat. And,, human toes. Odo will get into a sweaty tee shirt that I have worn outside cutting grass or something like that and really have a go at it. She seems to prefer the arm pit area. Marco has only nipped once, he had pooped all over himself and I was carrying him away from my body and he got scared. He likes to be carried against my body. Odo has nipped quite a few times, little nips to let me know that she dosen't want my finger under her belly checking for warmth, to let me know that she wants a mealie, that she likes the taste of an orange on my finger, that she dosen't want to play right now, she wants to sleep and stuff like that. She really latched onto one of my bare toes once though. Bit and then tugged on it like it was a mealie or something. It hurt like fire and since I now keep toes away from her mouth, she has never bit like that since. I didn't get mad because she didn't do it to be mean. Something about the smell made her think it was food. She will also attack a shoe from the inside and a sweaty sock.

That was not Doris' fault at all. Not hubby's either. They just love the smell of deodorant and I am sure she was trying a taste test and got skin by mistake. Poor Doris, that must have shocked her.
Beware also of any area that are sweaty, perfume, aftershave, and fingers that have yummy hand lotion, food smell or mealy smell.
When ours are out on us and get interested in an area we always make sure the clothing is pulled out really loose so they can chew and sample without the risk of getting skin. :)
Poor Doris.

She does seem to like his armpit... she has chewed on his clothed before and it was so cute, but he was laying down and the clothing was away from his body. So I guess I will have to make sure she just gets clothing next time. Now I wish I could find some treats she likes as much as my hubby.

Bosco LOVES armpits and dirty socks. When he is out running around on my bedroom floor, he will hunt those socks down and drag them around with him until he finds just the right place to start chewing on it. Once I left a sock in with him over night, and woke up to find him sleeping, all curled around it. Very cute :)

OMG I do the same thing! Tico loves to sample my shirt, he will sit and chew on my shirt and annoint for half an hour. He will chew, then annoint, chew some more, then annoint some more. It goes on forever. One time I had him on my tummy and he felt my belly button ring, he bit right down on the ball part, let me tell you it hurt like heck. I let him chew on my shirt, but I pull it way out away from my body so he doesnt nip me instead. Then I sit there ready to feel him bite me until he is done chewing. Silly hedgies!
My Tico also likes to bite my boyfriend. He has bitten me twice, each time it was precluded by licking so it was my fault. I dont understand why he likes to bite Aaron so much, must be a male thing.

Quillson isn't a biter, never has been, but I remember the night that we had the eclipse, I had him outside with my 7 year old neice Kyla. Quillson was running around in the grass while we watched the eclipse. Kyla had on flip-flops and Quillson was really interested in her toes. We never expected him to bite because he'd only done it once before (my brother's girlfriend kept poking him in the nose and he got mad :)), but the next thing we knew, "CHOMP!" Kyla's big toe was in Quillson's mouth.
She said it didn't hurt but I felt bad. I wonder what makes hedgies think dirty feet might be tastey!?
