i have gotten some flax oil to add to Muzzles food. My question is how much to use at a time and how to store it properly. The bottle said to keep in fridge after opening for up to 6 weeks, so I kept some in the bottle and froze the rest in two small tupperward jars in the freezer as it recommended that for long term storage. I have used flax seed on my horses before but never the oil.
Is the storage ok?
How much and how often to use?
Should i apply it directly to her hard kibbles?

Hey Lea
I just got Flaxseed oil too. Mine is in the freezer. I haven't given them any yet but plan to do a few drops on their kibble.

I've been giving my girl flaxseed oil (after a mediocre success with ground flaxseed) for few months and it's great. Both her skin and quills are much healthier. She used to have very dry skin and vit. E and almond oil didn't really help much. Even her quills look very shiny now! In the beginning I gave her 1/2 tsp with her kibbles every other day and now I only give it to her every 3-4 days. She really likes the taste too because she eats more kibbles with the oil than not. Normally she leaves Royal Canin Slim in her bowl but with the oil she eats a lot more of those lite kibbles too. Silly girl.

Last night was the first for all of them with flaxseed oil on their food. I must say it was a hit. They sure did eat far more, obviously so they didn't miss a drop of the oil.

I have the flaxseed capsules. Can I use that? It's a vit. for humans. Is it the same thing you guys are using?

Yes it is the same thing. Just puncture the capsule and drop on their food.

Gonna try it tonight. Frodo could use a little help with his quills.

I'm sure he'll love it. :) I bought 8oz bottle from the store and before giving it to my hedgie, tasted it myself. It's very nutty and good. I gave pretty good dosage in the beginning but have cut down a bit after my girl's skin got better.

Well, Frodo and Odo seem to like it ok. I couldn't tell with Marco. I couldn't pull his nose out of the bowl. Chomp, chomp, chomp. :slurp:
