The breeder I am getting my hedgie from said she feeds them Iams Kitten food to all her hedgies because Hedgies dont like hedgie food. Can you feed them other brands of kitten food, not just Iams?

Kitten food is too high in fat for hedgehogs. Go with a diet or lite, good quality cat food like Royal Canin Slim 38, or Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul Lite. :)

Gradually switch your hog from the old food to the new food. This should be about a 2 week process. Wouldn't want to upset any tummies!

I feed my boys a little bit of kitten food mixed in. I feed them CSFTCLS kitten. I wouldnt reccommend it though, my boys are very small and they are both runners so I am not worried about their weight. Plus its only a little bit mixed in with the other light brands.

I know this is off topic but with the great information already stated here, my two cents is not needed. I want to say Hi to Price! Welcome to the board little guy!!

Nutrience cat food is also great for hedgie's.. my little one (Marigold) loves it and so do my kitties ( Nermal and Allie) :D so it works out for everyone..:) I feed the lite and kitten mix right now since my cats are still under a year and my Marigold is still a baby herself, its a mix consisting of mostly the lite food, but a bit of kitten ..they all seem to love it :)

I know Ododad kitten food isnt the best. Trust me I know the pros and cons. But they love it and Tico is kind of small so I worry about his weight, especially since he runs like a madman all night long. They have been eating it for Ten months and six months consecutively and I have seen no significant weight gain. If I did I would stop giving it to them.

I should have put a note on my first post, I really do know the problems with it, but I also know my hedgies and I think it is case by case sometimes.

Oh whoops, never mind I thought you meant something else. Thanks Ododad, I will get some more pictures one of these days!! Price says hi too!!

It's all good! :)

I give my crew some of the CSFTCLS Kitten formula too. A little bit is in the mix I feed them. I don't see any harm that it's doing them and the Vet said that what ever I was feeding them, to keep doing it because Marco and Odo were in great health. The exact mix that I use is: RC38Slim, CSFTCLS lite and kitten formula and I am waiting on an online order of the Wellness lite and Wellness salmon flavored. I did a lot of experimenting and spent a ton on food to come up with this mixture. (my cat gets the leftovers and is in heaven!) This is the mix that my crew will be getting. It's a lot better than the dog food that Marco was on! lol
I would never try to tell someone what they should or shouldn't feed their hedgie. I would only suggest what I am feeding mine.
You know that you now have an official "herd" right? lol :applause:
