It just seems weird to me. I mean, does a hunter have a big grin on their face as they pull the trigger? Is the sound of a poor, defenseless animal writhing in pain sweet music to their ears? Afterall, hunters almost wiped out our chinnie friends off the face of the planet. It's hard for me to fathom how someone can wear two different hats at the same time.

This is just my opinion, but I don't like hunting... I mean, yes, people need to control the population of deer, but I hate it! Someone I know killed a bear and skined it because according to him "my wife said she wants a bear collection"- so he got the bear to make a rug and hang the head on the wall. I can barley listen to someone who says that they hit a squirrel, but listening to someone say they killed a bear or a deer just gets to me- esp. if I see it happen (I have seen 2 deer be hit- one was on it's back and flailing her legs up in their air- I saw it on the way to a reunion... the other, was while we were driving home from a friends house, the car in front of us hit the deer, it went 10 feet across the road, got up and left... I doubt it was ok though)

Walking contradiction. Why don't they just kill their pets since they like killing so much?

I have no problem with it.

First - A deer is not a pet, it's a wild animal, and much as I detest hunting, there is a need for it in certain places. It sucks because I love all animals, and WE have taken over their space, but as long as it is done humanely and not by a bunch of drunks, then I can see the need for it.

Second - This could just as easily be compared to do you eat meat? If you do, do you own pets? Because if you eat meat, you must hate animals, and therefore should not own pets.

Next up - PETA members will be posting their opinions. What fun, eh?

Lord help us!!!

I'm a vegetarian and an animal lover. I also grew up in a family where every male and some female relatives started hunting as soon as they were old enough for hunter's safety. Do I hunt? Absolutely not! If you hunt and utilize the animal, then I have no problems with that because that's part of the circle of life. If you hunt for the sport of it or for the "trophy" animal- that is entirely a different matter and subject for another debate.

I have no problem with it. I agree with tunes whole heartedly. If humans where not in the loop in the first place, and the natural order of things was left the way God intended it to be, then we wouldn't have to have a poll like this. Animal populations would take care of themselves naturally.

And like paris said, if you hunt, and utilize the food source, then I too have no problem with hunting. It's the local yokals that have to have that deer head on their wall that get me going.

tunes, I agree with your first statment... if it's done humanley, and if it's done to control the population or because it needs to be done, than fine... but like you, I don't like to hear people going out to do it to get a head or just to do it...

#2- I also don't eat meat... or now I don't. I used to, but starting after I saw a "behind the scenes" video from KFC, I decided not to eat chicken... and now, I don't eat meat, and I stick with that.

No, definitely not a contradiction at all. Wild animals, in today's world, must be maintained...that's life. I have pets, and I DO hunt...my whole family does...my little sister got her first doe this season and I was really proud. My dad, who's lower income, was very greatful to have a freezer full of venison. Does that mean we don't have the capacity to love our pets? NO! I must say though that my family DOES NOT waste the animal. We make jerky, steaks, bologna, burger, etc...etc...etc... And personally, I think using the fur of an animal makes it even MORE worthwhile. Simply because, why waste even that? Humans, IMO, were meant to eat meat. Our teeth prove it...so, regardless of whether you're religious or not, it seems obvious that humans were intended to keep other populations in check by eating them.

One other thing, chins were trapped and killed for their pelts. They really weren't hunted...not in the sense that I use the term. AND chins are STILL killed for the pelts, and had that not been so, you wouldn't have your beloved pet chinny...something to consider

Sorry about my other post. I was going to type more but I had to do something. I think it's perfectly fine if the animal is killed because it is needed. But to hunt just because you can-that really bugs me. For the most part, I don't eat meat. I eat chicken every once in a while, but that's about it.
