Ok, so I got my new girl home today. And to me she looks a little chubby. I got her from someone who wanted to keep her but didnt really have the time, and they had a loud house. So my question is, what is a range that would be healthy for a 8 month old female? The reason I think she looks chubby, is even her legs look chubby, especially compaired to my guy indy. I have to get a scale to weigh her but that will have to be in a couple of days, cause I want her to get used to her new home.

Can she roll into a complete ball? That is the way to tell if they are over weight. If she cannot, she is over weight. There is not weight range for any age hedgie as they vary greatly. Did she have a wheel? Maybe she wasn't getting enough exercise. As long as she can roll into a complete ball she is fine. Just remember that hedgies come in all shapes and sizes and there is never a "normal" weight. Hedgies can weigh as little as 200 grams and as much as 1000 without being under or over weight. Hope this helps! :)

I have a very overweight girl and Tawana (Paris26) has an overweight girl and both can roll completely into a ball. That is not a totally accurate way to tell. Of course if she can't roll into a ball then she is overweight but just because she can roll doesn't mean she isn't overweight. Well that was confusing as heck wasn't it.
The first is my very "fluffy" girl, the second is Smokey who was overweight at the time.

Hi, Teasels Mom, I would say that currently she looks very much like the second picture. She can roll into a ball, but yeah she looks like she could swallow, indy.

Get her active. That is the best way for her to loose weight. If she has never had a wheel, just the introduction of a wheel will help her loose quite a bit. :)

She has a wheel but its a little one like 8" or somewhere around there so I have to get her a new bigger wheel since she doesn't seem to fit in there which might be why shes chubby. Also I was looking through the food she was on/is getting weaned off of, and its high in fat, min was 14% so hopefully as that slowly changes she will loose some weight also.

I think with a good wheel and lower fat food she will probably loose that fat. :)
Be sure and post pictures of her. :)
