I have a list of cat foods people recommend feeding and have some questions about mixing them. Should I tend to stay with the same mix or is it okay to change it for variety? I'm not sure if they have the same problems as dogs when food is changed. Should I have a basic mix of two or three foods and rotate one every once in a while?
I also found a lady that mixes a few pieces of ferret food every few days with her mix. Is that okay if the ferret food meets hedgehog requirements?
I also was wondering about adding some mazuri insectivore diet once in a while--Is it an okay choice?
Thanks,
Jessica

They don't usually do well if there food is changing all the time, you need to give them a standard staple diet, and then give them treats inbetween, insects, veggies, fruits stuff like that.

Ferret food is very high in fat so therefore not good for hedgehogs. Hedgehogs require a low fat diet. :)
A mix of 2-3 high quality diet or lite cat foods is recommended.

I agree. I think they should have a steady diet that they can get used to and depend on that it will be there. Then for variety try different treats. I tried some of that Mazuri but it didn't go over very well. All hedgies are different though so you can try.
JMO, I would never feed ferret food to a hedgie.

How often should I give things like fruits, veggies, bugs, etc? One website had posted they gave fruits & veggies one day, meat the next, then bugs, something like cottage cheese or a couple shredded pieces and then they got a little bit of yogurt.
Are you supposed to feed them dairy often? I thought I heard you weren't. What schedule do you guys use or do you just give the same things every night?
Thanks Again,
Jessica

Well both of my hedgies have access to their staple diet of Royal Canin 38 Slim, Spikes Delight Premuim, some oil based mink food which seems to keep their skin soft and not dry. Then about every two or three days I will give them 2-3 crickets, since neither of them like mealworms. Then I give them a couple pieces of fresh fruit on the days with out the crickets, or more often since some they dont eat. Beyond that I do on ocasion give them some cheese or yogurt but not more than once a week, mostly cause if I give them it, they wont touch the kibble, or they will eat like one piece. Thats just my opinion.

I give one mealie (the big ones) a night to Frodo and Odo, and two crickets to Marco a night. (He is scared of mealies) Their main diet is avalible at all times to them. I give different fruits, veggies and such every other night also some yogart but to date none of them have eaten any of it. I still give them the choice though. I have tried most everything you can think of for treats. They don't seem to care much for any of it yet.
