What is a good food for a fat hedgie?? I just got a realy nice little (or not so little) girl that needs to loose a few grams..
Will any low fat food work (good quality of course)? Or is there something special out there that would be good??

Should I limit her food intake?? She has a wheel in her cage and her cage is big.. and im gonna take her out and put her in the play pen daily for some more exercise..

What more can I do??

Fat or not.. she is a cutie.. with a very nice personality...

Don't limit her food. It is best to get her moving more. She should be on a low fat, diet or lite cat food and make sure she gets lots of time to run around.

In a big cage you can move her food around and hide it so she has to move around to look for it. :)

While Annabelle is on her way to reducing her full sized figure, I just made it more of a challenge to mealtime. I would put her in a play pen and sprinkle kibble in toys, under a blanket, in tubes, so it would get her moving! I would then put the remainder of her food in her dish in her cage, but I would also move that around. I also limited her mealies/crickets to once a week since they are high in fat. It's been working for me because Annabelle went from 630 grams down to 600 grams in a two month span. Yeah Annabelle! We still have a bit to go, but we're getting there

Yea.. I had thought of spreading her food around.. I just got her yesterday.. wanted to give her time to adjust to the new environment before I started her "exercise routine"... How does one make a hedgie run on her wheel???? for more than a couple laps??

You can't make her. Either she will or she won't. It make take her some time though so don't take it away from her. Not all hedgies poop on their wheel either so she may be running without your knowledge. Good luck with your new hedgie Do you have a photo posted of her yet?

*tilts head* How do you know for sure she is overweight? It's my understanding that some hedgies are just built BIG. I only ask because you mention that you just got her recently.

Well, when you watch her walk.... she waddles.. and she has lumps of fat in front of her front legs.. which are dwarfed by the rest of her....
Like I said.. shes cute.. just chunky...

Hey, where can I trade in Jake for one of the non-pooping kind? That would rock!
