I've never heard it called "homo black" but there is a mutation called homo ebony. The price for a homo ebony (keeping in mind that it is pedigree) usually can run from 200 and up. I am about to purchase a female and she is going to cost 250. Also you should find more out about this chin before you purchase it. Are you getting it from a pet store or from a breeder? If it is a breeder (and you are doing face to face purchasing) I would definitely recommend seeing both the mom and dad of the chin and I would also recommend that you find out if he is pedigree since I figure you are purchasing him to breed with your pink/white. Hope this helped some.

Well, that's the thing...I doubt that he's going to come with a pedigree due to that this lady is trying to trade me an even trade for my sugar glider which will definitely not work b/c she was only going to sell her ebony for $100 and my glider is worth about $200...but on the other hand...the chinchilla is beautiful and the lady really didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about due to she didn't even know what color he really was...she was just going by what the person she bought him for said...I just don't think it'd be a fair trade as far as she was wanting the cage and accessories to for the trade

Well if he is pedigree, then yes that would be a good trade. But if he's not you are probably outing yourself money. Her selling her ebony at 100 is probably all that she could get out of him if he is not pedigree. (mainly b/c a lot of people do not wish to buy non-pedigree chins for the fact that if they ever want to breed them they aren't sure of the blood lines behind the chin) Also if she purchased her chin from a petstore and not a breeder then (I'm not saying always) but a lot of times they tend to be less healthy than chins from breeders. If you want to get him, go for it, but if I were you I would probably just purchase him for the 100 and keep your glider.

Value is usually based on how much you really like or want the animal.
I have done trades where one side is deffinately was valued more if sold for $$, but the animal I was getting was worth more in my breeding program and fit for me....I had no need for the other one. It makes it a good trade then. I did add that he owed me a big drink at the next show though!! :)

I don't really have the money or else I would get him but the lady also sounds a little shady to me...I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me...I think I'll wait for my girl to grow up a little more and look at another one

BUT...........like you said too - know who you are dealing with and if it doesn't feel right - don't do it!! I was referring to a very large and reputable breeder.....no problems there.
Go with your gut.....it's usually right.

Alright...well, I asked the lady about where she got him and so forth...she got him from a family in Illinois that didn't have much time to take care of him so they wanted him to go to a good home but he doesn't come with a pedigree or anything...so I think I'm just going to pass b/c I don't wanna take the risk and I know money's not everything but it's definitely going to cost me some as far as doing an even trade and I can't afford that right now being a poor college kid and all...thanks for all of your guys' advice! I really appreciate it! :blob3: :hello:

hope thats not my glider boy your thinking of trading?!
if you are i would like to get him back! =0
i have also never heard it called the homo black ebony, i always have known it as either homo ebony, or Dark ebony. You generally do see them ranging in one of the higher prices of chinchillas. (because they are one of the more beautiful!!!!) <3<3
