Ok, i had Taria out this morning, i knew she was awake, she was huffing at me getting dressed. she did have a poo, and it was EXTREMELY soft. I have been trying her with a mix of her normal food, and wellnes, i think that this might be why she had soft poo, but should i stop giving it to her??

I wouldn't quit giving the new food to her just yet. Make sure you only add a little bit to her regular kibble. If she has real liquidy not formed poops then discontinue the new food.

I often find that if I introduce a new food which they prefer they will pick out and only eat the new food which defeats the idea of starting a new food slowly.

Well the first question is how old is chestnut, if he is around 8-12 weeks he may be quilling and the second question is what is a lot of quills to you. And her poop may be running cause she is eating the new food.

Stress from being in a new enviroment may cause loose stools also. If she has eaten all of her original food, what will you feed her now? What is her original food, is it the food she came with when you got her? Do you plan on keeping her on the original food or changing it? Now would probably be a good time to make a decision on this. Take a walk through the Diet and Nutrition forum to see what most people recommend for food, and how to change her diet. There is lot's of information there!

1. Is the hedgehog eating and drinking normally?
2. Is the hedgehog losing weight?
3. How many days has this been happening?
4. What color are the stools?

If the hedgehog is eating and drinking normally, is not losing weight, and it has been less than 24-48 hours do not panic and wait. If the symptoms change, or if you go past 48 hours with no change, take the animal in to see a vet along with a stool sample. If the stool is very frequent and runny, seek a vet's attention asap, this can result in dehydration.

Bloody: If you see blood in the stool, seek veterinary attention.

Mucous: yellowish, white, or a clear slimy substance are indicators of bowel irritation and should be seen by a veterinarian.

Black, tarry: These stools could indicate a bleeding high in the bowel. A veterinarian should be consulted.

Brown: This is a normal color.

Green: Green can be an indication of stress, diet/water change, or illness. If it persists for more than a couple of days, the stool becomes runny, or any other changes, seek veterinary attention.

All in all, if you are concerned, call your vet and describe the situation. Seek their advice.
