Ok, I was talking with a friend of mine, who knows I have a hedgehog, and said he was in a pet shop and there was 2 or 3 of them in a cage. That got me thinking with a lot of people getting hedgies from pet shops, which seem to keep them in groups no matter what the sex, what do you guys do when you get a female from a pet shop and it has babies? What do you do with the babies, once they are old enough to go away from their mom? do you give them away, keep them, sell them? Well I was just wondering

If that happened to me, I would keep the babies and find homes for them myself. I wouldnt trust the petstore to find good homes for *my* babies...not to mention what would be stopping them from keeping my babies all together and risking one of the females becoming pregnant?

That it a horrible set up. When the store I work in gets hedgehogs(which isn't very often--usually we only get the few a year from my boss' brother if someone has been looking around for awhile and done the research) they are seperated if there is more than one.
I would take care of the baby situation myself--obviously the pet store didn't do a very good job. As it is, the babies would probably be inbred and if you gave the pet store the babies they would probably just add them to the current hogs and end up with even more inbred babies.
Just My opinion,

Is this a petstore in the A2 area? If yes, PM me the store? I'd like to go see them. Often petstores really have no clue what sex a hedgehog really is. One of the rescues I took in last year came from a petstore and passed through 2 other owners. Both owners assumed she was a he because the petstore said so (and so did a vet for that matter). She definitely isn't a he.
Some petstores will listen to someone who 'is knowledable' or at least sounds like they know what they are talking about and will fix the problem of co-habitating mixed sexes.
