I am getting a hedgie in a week from my bosses brother (whenever my cage comes) and he brought him to the pet supply store where I work today.

I'm not sure if his behavior is odd or if anyone else has seen anything like this?

He ran up to the side of the tank(he is in a 40 gal long in the "baby room" until I get my cage) and he pops and whistles until I put my finger in front of him. Then he runs a lap around the cage and comes back to do it again. He does it everytime he wakes up and doesn't stop until I take him out. He only does it to me though and nobody is really sure why other than I am the one who cares for him at the store. (he was at the store when he was born--my boss had been watching the mother (she gave birth early) when his brother was out of the state and stayed there until he & his sisters were there until they were old enough to be moved) I just figured he wanted to be out of the cage for a while. Anyway--its cute and has become a fun game for him.

He also balls up and rolls once or twice while he is playing in his cage--that looks like it could be a little painful but I guess it can't be too bad if he keeps doing it.

Just Curious,
Jessica

Sounds like he has a lot of engery. Does he have a wheel?
I would'nt say he was acting odd. It would be odd if he DIDN'T play.
You didn't say how old he is.

He is going to be three months old tomorrow actually.

There is a wheel and tube maze that goes over the side of the tank into another one(I've seen him in both tanks so I know he can climb over the side with the tubes)--So he gets plenty of exercise. I think he just likes being out of the cage. He is very curious.

Aww! He sounds so cute! :D His behavior sounds perfectly normal to me. Some hedgies are very active while others (like my Sweetie Pie) are very lazy! He probably does it only with you because he likes you and it's become a type of routine for him. Either way I would take it as a good sign :) If you have a chance, post some pics of him. Everyone here loves to see pics of hedgies!

Three months old, and very curious. Sounds like your going to have a handful when you get this little guy home and in his new cage! He sounds like my new fellow, Frodo. Frodo is also very active and very, VERY curious. He gets into everything! In respect to your little guy only doing this with you, well, he already knows who his mommy is! :)
Have you a name for him yet? I can't wait to see photo's.

If he is this active now, just wait until he gets used to his new home and gets used to having time out of his cage. (Freedom Time). I think your in for a real treat with this one! :applause:

He sounds just like my Oliver! That boy is like the energizer bunny. He keeps going and going and going :) Hang on for a wild ride!

I can't post pics until I get my camera back from my mom. My 2 year old niece calls him "pelstick" all the time--which i figured out was a cartoon character named Pelswick so that is probably going to be his name. I thought it was kind of unique.

I tried the string thing with Frodo last night. Just like you described, he chased it around like a little kitten! Great idea you had there! :applause:

Mine loves to play... It amazes me because she runs all night on her bucket wheel and then in the afternoon i get her out for an hour and she plays like crazy. I am lucky because she is very easy to hold and gets a long with everyone.
