Does anyone use Nutro Natural Choice Weight Management in their hedgehog mix? The label is as follows:
Crude Protein: 33%
Crude Fat Min: 10%
Crude Fat Max: 13%
Crude Fiber Max: 4.5%
The fiber is low but I have CSFTCLS Light and the adult formula too. I am also adding Pretty Pets because the hedgie I'm getting doesn't seem to like anything I Have tried except the Pretty Pets and CSFTCLS--He loves pretty pets the most. It is always gone when I change his food.
Is Pretty Pets bad for hedgehogs or do most people's pigs just not eat it? I know it isn't the greatest but he likes it and I'd rather let him eat it as long as it isn't bad for them.
Thanks,
Jessica

I've never tried the Nutro nor the Pretty Pets.

I've not tried Nutro, but have tried Pretty pets and only had 1 hedgehog that would eat it, and only then if all the other food was gone. One of my hedgehogs even took the time to remove the food from his bowl and put it in his litter pan.
I also just don't care for Pretty Pets ingredients. There are too many in there that I disapprove of.

Most of my hogs were on Pretty Pets when I adopted them, and they didn't eat that very well. I still mixed the Pretty Pets in for a few weeks and they ate right around the stuff. I agree with Julie, (kalandra) not very impressed by the ingredients!

I used to think that Nutro was a pretty good food.
However, after reading "Food Pets Die For" by Anne Martin- and finding out that Nutro Premium tested postive for containing the chemical sodium pentobarbital ( the drug that is used to put animals to sleep) I quickly changed my mind about the food. What this means is that the food contains euthanized animals. By euthanized animals I mean the pets that you take to your vets office to be put to sleep. It has been proven that some vet clinics sell the dead bodies of your pet to rendering plants to be made into food for other pets. Sickening? I think so.
Im not saying that all Nutro food does- or that the type you are choosing to feed your hedgie does- but that one type of food put out by the Nutro company did test postive. IMO that says alot of the company in general.
Other foods that were included on the list for containing sodium pentobarbital are as follows:
Super G, Pet Esentials, America's Choice, Weis Valus, Ol'Roy (mentioned MANY times on the list. This is WALMARTS brand of food), Ken L, Heinz, Kibble Select, Nutro (only mentioned once- although once is once to many for me) Trailblazer, Champ Chunxs, Proplan (mentioned twice) and Reward.

Here are some links I found:
http://www.belfield.com/article3.html
http://members.rogers.com/anmartin1/cvm.html
There were many more (including the two above) when I did a Google search: Key words were Sodium pentobarbital pet food:
http://www.google.ca/search?q=sodium+pentobarbital+pet+food&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Finally- you may find the book "Food Pets Die For" by Ann N Martin interesting. It talks about what goes into pet foods, how to read pet food lables, what the names on the ingredient lists actually mean, what different companies (namely IAMS) do in terms of animal testing and also gives recipes for people who are interested in starting their dog/cat on a homemade diet. Its a very good book, and I highly recommend it.
Hope that helps some.

Thanks for those links. Ug, the things some companies will do. That's just disturbing. :Pukey:
