I was wondering what kind of food everyone feeds their hedgie? Also where do you get it? What's the price--even after shipping. Is it big that there is a dealer of it? I know my Mazuri chin food it is www.mazuri.com and I can type the area code of mine and find dealers of it closeby.
I have heard of people feeding their hedgies dog and cat food. Is there only certain brands you can use? If so what ons? What food is healthy? Is dog/cat food healthy for hedgies?
Thanks :)

I feed a combination of wellness (cat food), spikes delight, royal canin slim 38 (cat food), and a mink food. Spikes Delight and the mink food have to be ordered, but the cat food you can find at petco, or other pet shops.

I would stay with cat food. Eukanuba cat food is alright, that's what I used to feed when I first started with hedgehogs

Most feed cat food because lite cat food most closely fits the profile of what we know about hedgie nutritional needs. Dog food doesn't. Sorry!

Please, do not use dog food. Marco had been on dog food all of his life before I got him and he was in really sad shape because of it. Dog food does not have the nutrition that is needed. Also, I don't really care for any of the hedgehog foods out there either. Feeding a mixture of Chicken Soup For The Cat Lovers Soul Lite with just a little of the kitten formula thrown in, Royal Canine Slim 38 and Wellness Lite and Salmon flavor has made a world of difference in both Frodo's and Marco's health. They were both rescues with a lifelong history of a poor diet. If you could just see the difference the change of food by itself made in them! It may be a little more diffcult to find these and other excellent quality foods, but the extra expense is more than worth it for a healthy, happy hog. Don't forget to throw in a mealie and a cricket sometimes too. A lot of hedgies will also munch on stuff like, peas, apples, bannanas, yogart, baby foods, ect.. There are many threads about this here.

Thanks for the info. :) She sometimes gets mealies, but not often. She gets about 5 crickets every 2 or 3 weeks. I love watching her chase and search for them!

I think I speak for most people here in saying, It looks like your doing your homework on hedgies and asking very good questions the answers to which are important to your hedgies well being.
Speaking just for me, I want to say thank you for doing so. Some people get a hedgie without knowing anything about them, decide that they are not what they thought they were going to be and the poor little guy/gal ends up in a smelly, noisy shelter being completely miserable. I have seen this firsthand and it is heartbreaking to say the least.
Best of luck in your search for knowledge.
